companies create products which are not wholly necessary to living, they then use media as a temptress in order to sell us those products. Other companies create entertainments to keep us busy and relieve us of our hard earned money when we are not buying, just so that we can be eager to go back to work in order to earn money to buy more stuff.

It's like one big cycle. Its the same idea with fashion, the whole idea of a creating trends is so that they go out of fashion, so that you will have to buy more stuff to keep up with the latest trends (which eventually come around again, but just sufficiently different so that your older clothes are not fashionable.
